President Pezeshkian spoke in a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday.
In the conversation, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran never launched a war, adding that the Israeli regime had acted in violation of international law by attacking Iran, including targeting nuclear facilities, a “crime against humanity.”
Pesezkian, who highlighted civilian casualties and bombing non-military regions, criticized the United Nations for not condemning the Israeli regime’s strike. He noted that assaults occurred during continued diplomatic negotiations, with American negotiators claiming that Israel would not act without US approval, but that the attack took place just before the sixth round of talks and would halt the negotiation process.
He also mentioned the US “double standards” and later bombed Iran’s nuclear sites on the eighth day of the conflict. Pezeshkian said Iran was forced to hit a US base in Qatar. He also later told Qatar Emil that the lawsuit was limited to American facilities and was not intended as a violation of the sovereignty of friendly neighbours.
Repeating Iran’s commitment to peaceful and respectful regional relations, Pezeshkian said Iran will stabilize and respect the territorial integrity of all its neighbors. He also expressed his hopes for expanded cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan did not allow airspace to be used against Iran
In response, President Aliyev expressed regret over the Israeli attack and the resulting civilian casualties. He welcomed the ceasefire and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s respect for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Refusing reports suggesting that Azerbaijani airspace was used to attack Iran by Israeli drones, Aliyev emphasized that his government would have full control of its airspace and never allow Iran to use it.
He emphasized Azerbaijan’s desire to expand relations with Iran in its economic, political and security sectors, and proposed sending Iranian delegations to Baku for future trilateral talks on the North-South Corridor Project.
President Aliyev also invited his Iranian counterpart to attend the ecosummit in Azerbaijan.
