The move aims to improve navigation safety and modernize pilot procedures across the country.
Ali Akbar Malzvan, a member of the PMO board of directors and deputy director of maritime affairs, announced the initiative at the closing ceremony of the Northern Pilot Conference in Gilan Province. He said pilot experts will be actively involved in drafting the revised guidelines to ensure that they reflect realities on the ground and operational challenges.
Marzban emphasized the importance of such meetings in promoting knowledge exchange and updating technical skills. He explained that Marine Corps pilots are essential to ensuring maritime safety and efficient vessel movement.
Focus on training and knowledge conservation
Marzban called for a structured, continuous training programme tailored to marine pilots, calling them important assets for the marine sector. He also proposed the development of technical bulletins to document pilot activities. Over time, this will serve as a valuable scientific archive for the maritime community.
Approximately 40,000 pilot projects implemented last year
Speaking at the same event, PMO’s Maritime Affairs Director Allah Morad Afphiapir highlighted the important role of pilots in securing maritime trade routes. He noted that pilots are key to safe entry and exit for vessels at Iranian ports.
Afifipour reported that about 40,000 pilot operations were carried out in Iranian waters last year, all of which were successfully completed. We would like to thank Iranian pilots for their expertise.
He added that around 85% of the country’s marine pilots are based in Nangang, while 15% are operating in the north. PMO also uses local expertise and pilot experience to develop dedicated national training resources.
