Tehran – The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia have launched joint military exercises along the shared borders of the strategically important Nordouz region.
Brigadier General Variola Madani, representative of the operation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) ground forces, announced the commencement of joint operations on Wednesday, highlighting the importance of strengthening combat readiness for operational units deployed in the region.
“The main goal of this exercise is to enhance security of shared perimeters and improve the capabilities of the forces deployed in this sensitive area,” General Madani said. “Given the geopolitical importance of the Caucasus and the important nature of the Frontier Zone, this drill was carefully planned in advance. It shows both our preparation and our commitment to peace and lasting stability.”
According to the official report, the joint drill will end on April 10th.
Armenian forces carry out some of the movements on Armenian territory, while Iranian forces operate parallel operations on the border side.
The collaboration simulates an anti-terrorism scenario that focuses specifically on neutralising mock attacks by terrorist groups targeting border checkpoints along the Iranian and Armania frontiers.
