Abbas Aragchi, the Islamic Republic Foreign Minister of Iran, who is visiting Beijing on the official invitation of his Chinese counterpart, met with China’s first deputy prime minister, Din Xuexiang on Wednesday morning.
During the meeting, both sides considered the current state of cooperation within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Iran and China, and discussed ways to accelerate the implementation of the 25-year comprehensive cooperation programme.
Emphasizing China’s position as a strategic and trustworthy partner of the Islamic Republic, Araguchi emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation within frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.
Top Iranian diplomats also emphasized the need for close interactions with like-minded countries such as Iran and China, and reiterated Iran’s firm determination to expand ties with China to counter unilateral and global bullying.
He also expressed Iran’s views on regional and international issues, particularly on the serious dangers posed by Israel’s continued massacres in occupied Palestinian territory, regional attacks and repeated US attacks on Yemen. Araguchi called for a solid, immediate international response to stop the lawlessness and prevent jungle law from controlling global relations.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also explained to Chinese officials about ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, stressing that despite past bitter experiences, Iran continues to be committed to diplomacy with good intentions and seriousness.
On his part, Xuexiang welcomed the comprehensive growth of Iran-China relations and called the strategic partnership between the two countries the result of mutual trust, respect and shared interests. He reaffirmed the strong will of China’s leaders to further enhance cooperation with Iran in all areas of mutual interest.
He also described North-South cooperation as a valuable model of North-South cooperation, highlighting the importance of Iran and China’s coordination in multilateralism and rule of law at the international level.
He further reiterated China’s support for Iran’s efforts to lift sanctions and engage in negotiations over the nuclear program.
