TEHRAN – In a phone conversation on Sunday night, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti and his Iranian Abbas Aragki celebrated during Eid al-Fitr to discuss the development of the region, particularly the Israeli war with Gaza.
Over the past two weeks, Araguchi pointed to diplomatic talks with various regional and external countries, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts by regional countries to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza and prevent regime attacks on Lebanon and Syria.
The Iranian chief diplomat said Israel’s moves put peace in serious danger to the region and the world.
Iran’s foreign minister also called for a halt of US in Yemen.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister provided a report on his country’s latest efforts to establish a new ceasefire in Gaza, and advocated the importance of diplomatic efforts to prevent growing unrest in the region.
Hamas says Israel’s Eid attacks show “denial of moral values.”
A telegram statement from the Palestinian Hamas group says Israeli forces continue to fire Gaza all day long, without considering the sanctity of Eid al-Fitr.
“The first day of Eid al-Fitr’s terrorist attacks led to the deaths of dozens of martyrs, including children dressed in Eid,” he said.
“Killing a child on Eid Day in a tent reveals fascism of occupation and denial of human or moral values,” the statement added.
Medical sources told Al Jazeera that 64 people have been killed since Sunday dawn across Israel’s Gaza.
“Eid of sadness”
The Palestinians in the enclave were barely able to celebrate as they marked Eid al-Fitr with the rapidly declining food supply and endless Israeli artillery bombardment.
Many destroyed the mosque on the day marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, as at least 25 Palestinians were killed on Sunday.
Muslim festivals should be a fun opportunity when families gather for an East feast and buy new clothes for their children, but most Palestinians in Gaza are just trying to survive.
