Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi and Subramanyam Jaishankar met on Thursday morning.
Details of their meeting have not been released yet.
Upon arriving in the Indian capital on Thursday, Aragut hoped India and Pakistan could exercise restraints to avoid further tensions in the region.
Araghchi said the trip to India is part of a long-standing mission to convene a joint economic committee between the two countries.
“At the same time, we have always maintained political consultations with India on important regional and international issues. Given the current sensitive situation, these discussions will be more focused and cover a new dimension.”
Araghchi said he would consider regional issues, highlight Iran’s escalation and desire for peace, and meet with his Indian counterparts to consider regional issues.
“Our region needs to be calm, especially to expand economic cooperation between its neighbors. We hope this can be achieved,” he concluded.
