During a briefing before departing on Saturday morning, President Pezeschkian highlighted the strong existing trade ties between the two countries and expressed optimism about further strengthening these ties during the trip.
According to the Iranian president’s official website, the president was speaking to the Tehran media when he was ready to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif.
The president also highlights the deep-rooted, warm relations between Iran and Pakistan that have developed since the latter’s establishment, saying the partnership spans a variety of sectors, including economic, scientific, cultural, industrial and border cooperation. He also acknowledged the ideological bonds shared between the peoples of both countries.
Reflecting regional agenda, Pezeshkian pointed to strong condemnation of Pakistan’s recent US aggression against the Zionist regime and Iran. He praised the Pakistan Parliament for supporting Iran’s territorial integrity and reiterated the importance of solidarity among Islamic countries.
President Pezeshkian also outlined plans to deepen cooperation in border trade, markets and transport, highlighting the possibility that Iran could lead to the Silk Road, which is currently developing between China and Pakistan. He added that the link could promote trade routes linking Iran to Europe.
In conclusion, Pezeshkian tackled the challenges posed by external forces that attempt to create divisions among Islamic countries. He affirmed Iran’s commitment to promoting unity with Pakistan.
The President first travels to Lahore, where he visits the tomb of Muhammad Iqbal, paying tribute to this great poet and scholars from the Islamic world. Following this, he proceeds to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
On the second day of his trip, after an official welcome ceremony, the Iranian president will hold a meeting with the Prime Minister, President and Pakistani senators.
