TEHRAN – Casarex 2025, a massive joint maritime search and rescue movement, began Monday in the Caspian Sea with the participation of naval forces from Iran’s Islamic Republic and the Russian Federation.
The three-day drill is hosted by Iran’s North Fleet and the 4th Navy District of Imamreza.
Lower Admiral Mohsen Razaqi, a spokesman for the movement, said Casarex 2025 also includes units from the Iranian Army Navy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Navy (IRGC) Navy and observers of other Caspian coastal countries.
Speaking at the press conference, Razaki said the exercise was being held under the slogan “Together for a safe and secure Caspian Sea.” He said the drill was designed to implement commands by commanders that aimed to expand diplomacy through international cooperation and to promote greater coordination among the navy of Caspian countries.
“The exercise aims to strengthen the joint operational capabilities of maritime rescue and safety, protect commercial transport routes, and develop a common framework for future multinational naval exercises,” he explained.
The drill consists of two phases, coastal and maritime, and features a wide range of tasks, including support for tormented vessels, vertical relocation operations, search and rescue operations, overboard responses, clock drill officers, maritime voyages, aerial photography, and naval parades.
Lezaki emphasized that Iran is firmly committed to maintaining security in the Caspian Sea, saying, “Ensuring regional and international maritime security is a top priority for the Islamic Republic of Iran. The navy will not tolerate maritime violations and will work closely with neighboring countries to ensure full security for the entire region.”
The Casarex 2025 Maritime Rescue and Rescue Movement began on July 21, 2025 in the Caspian Sea hosted by the Iranian Army Navy Northern Fleet. The Iranian Navy and the Islamic Revolution protect the Navy, law enforcement commanders join together with the Russian Navy, and observers from other coastal Caspia provinces are also present.
The joint Russian and Iranian naval movement has strongly advocated for military presence in strategically important regions.
The operation demonstrates the maritime security and rescue capabilities of Moscow and Tehran, and strengthens control of the Caspian Sea region.
