TEHRAN – President Masudo Pezeshkian praised Russia’s support of Iran’s legitimate uranium enrichment rights, reaffirming the Islamic Republic’s unwavering commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons.
Pezeshkian spoke on a Monday call with Russia’s Vladimir Putin, who expressed optimism over negotiations on UN Security Council Resolution 2231, reflecting Moscow’s support for Iran’s enrichment rights.
Putin also explained to Pezeshkian about the recent High Stakes Russia US Summit in Alaska. There, the two leaders reportedly discussed the resolution of the Ukraine crisis, and Pezeshkian hopes that these agreements will come to fruition soon.
Pezeshkian emphasized his personal commitment to accelerating the important Rasht-Astara Railway Project (part of the INSTC), a cornerstone that strengthens Iran-Russia relations. Beyond bilateral relations, Iran sees regional organizations such as the Eurasian Economic Union, SCO and BRICS as important platforms to partner with countries such as Russia and China to effectively challenge the unilateral control and control of the United States.
The Iranian president also worked on the recent Armenian-Azerbaijan agreement, mediated by the US, ensuring that Armenian officials have ensured that Iran and Russia’s concerns have been fully addressed. The transaction, despite being non-binding, promoted local concerns at the time of signing. This is because it gives the US exclusive rights to develop Armenian transport corridors adjacent to Iran, potentially disrupting regional geopolitics and Iranian trade routes. Pezeshkian added that the “3+3” framework (Iran, Russia, etc.) is a more effective mechanism for solving the Caucasian problems.
Putin confirmed a positive trend in the relationship between Moscow and Tehran, highlighting it by an 11% increase in trade and strong cooperation in the development of the Rasht-Astara Railway and the Buscher nuclear power plant.
