TEHRAN – Iranian Home Minister Escandar Momeni has arrived in Tajikistan’s capital, Doshanbe, on a two-day official visit aimed at supporting security cooperation and expanding bilateral relations.
Momeni was formally welcomed upon arrival by the first vice ministers of Home Affairs Tajik, Ramazon Rahimzoda and Alim Shazoda.
The visit will focus on signing a joint action plan and high-level meetings with Tajik officials to deepen coordination on security, law enforcement and anti-drug efforts. This follows a recent increase in diplomatic exchanges between the two countries.
After discussing with the counterpart, Momeni announced the signing and exchange of a new security and law enforcement cooperation agreement between Tehran and Dushanbe.
“This document lays the foundation for a new framework for broader collaboration,” says Momeni. “We believe that Iran and Tajikistan’s security are closely linked.”
He also highlighted the momentum created by Iranian President Masudo Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Tajikistan, which he said opened a “new chapter” in bilateral relations.
Cultural, historical, religious and linguistic commonalities between the two countries were also highlighted as key factors for cooperation.
The newly signed contract covers multiple areas such as cross-border security, civil and drug management. Both sides also agreed to utilize each other’s training facilities and police equipment to further operate the agreement.
“This agreement not only strengthens existing cooperation, but also creates a clear structure for deeper engagement. We are confident that Tajikistan’s security is Iran’s security and vice versa.”
He concluded by reaffirming both Home Affairs Ministry commitments to expand cooperation in the coming months.
