The Iranian-Turkey trade delegation reviewed the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation and examined mechanisms to achieve its $30 billion trade target.
Leza Masroa, secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council of Free Trade Zones, led a delegation to Turkey to strengthen cooperation in the free trade zone. The delegation met with officials from the Turkish Ministry of Trade to assess joint projects and investment opportunities.
Masroa’s visit included tours of Istanbul’s free trade zone and meetings with Turkish traders and business people.
Following the discussion, the Turkish Ministry of Trade issued a statement on X, providing an overview of the important topics addressed during the meeting. The ministry said the Iranian delegation met with Turkish deputy trade minister Mustafa Tuz.
The consultations focused on the implementation of the agreements reached at the 8th meeting of the Iranian Turkish High Council, particularly in the areas of the free trade zone and special economic territory.
Turkey has also reiterated its commitment to strengthening economic ties through trade and investment, in line with the $30 billion trade target set by the country’s president.
Ambassador: $7 billion increase in Iran’s weed trade
Iran’s Turkish ambassador also highlighted a steady rise in bilateral trade, saying that Tehran and Ankara trade volume reached $11.8 billion last year, surpassing $17.5 billion by February this year.
During a virtual meeting of the Iran Noise Joint Transportation Commission, Hossein Habibollahzadeh predicted that trade volume could reach $19 billion by the end of the year.
Emphasizing the importance of transportation development, Habiborazadeh said trade and transport between the two countries increased by $7 billion this year.
However, he highlighted the need for critical infrastructure upgrades in the rail, air, sea and port sectors to maintain and expand this growth.
