Gollum Hossein Hosseinia, a ministry of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, read a statement in support of the Palestinians at the ILO’s 113th session in Geneva on Saturday.
Praises the resilience of Palestinians, Joseyinia states, “The Islamic Republic is a strong supporter of Palestinian ILO membership, allowing Palestinian workers and institutions to defend their rights and rebuild a devastating economy.”
“The Iranian government and people express unwavering solidarity with Palestinians, especially Gaza residents, who continue to suffer unimaginable suffering and difficulties,” the statement read, adding that Israel’s relentless attacks and long-term lockdowns have reduced Gaza to tile rubs and destroyed livelihoods.
Iranian representatives, who highlighted the killing of UN staff, journalists and medical personnel in Israeli attacks, called these actions, coupled with the systematic destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure, are a deliberate campaign of ethnic cleansing and genocide.
Palestine has been formally recognized as an observer state of the ILO by majority vote, and is a major step forward in Palestinian rights and representation in the multilateral system.
The decision is aligned with the United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the ILO’s position to expand Palestine’s right to participate.
This recognition strengthens the ability of Palestinian representatives to defend workers’ rights and fully contributes to the ILO tripartite debate.
