Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghai congratulated the Bolivian people and government on the successful presidential election, which resulted in the election of Rodrigo Paz as the new president.
He wished the new government success and emphasized Iran’s commitment to strengthening friendly relations with Bolivia, stressing the importance of deepening relations based on mutual respect and common interests between the two countries, especially in the fields of science, health and culture.
Bolivians have elected Rodrigo Paz of the center-right Christian Democratic Party (PDC) as their new president, ending nearly two decades of rule by the Movement for Socialism (MAS) party.
According to the country’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Paz won 54.5% of the vote in Sunday’s run-off election, with 97% of votes counted, far ahead of right-wing former interim president Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, who received 45.4%.
