TEHRAN – World Cities Day will be held in Tehran with the theme of smart cities, sustainable innovation, green buildings and a bright future.
The event will be held both in-person and online and will bring together relevant government agencies, academic and professional institutions, the private sector, young innovators, city managers, students, and stakeholders.
According to the United Nations Residency in Iran website, sharing expertise, showcasing innovative urban projects, and discussing the challenges and opportunities of sustainable urban development in the country and around the world are among the main parts of the event.
The event is centered around smart cities, technological innovation, sustainable construction, urban resilience and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Tehran will also host the 6th International Conference on Smart Cities and Artificial Intelligence in Iran from November 4th to 6th.
The event will revolve around artificial intelligence (AI), AI in urban management, AI in transportation and AI-enabled logistics, AI in crisis management, AI in security, AI in healthcare and public welfare, smart economy and smart governance through AI, AI in the environment, sustainable energy, public participation and public services, IRNA reported.
Smart cities are known as the key to realizing smart societies and sustainable development.
The conference brings together national and international academics, practitioners, city managers, businessmen, academics, experts, as well as knowledge-based companies to share experiences and knowledge and accelerate the transformation to smart cities.
The conference will also provide an opportunity to showcase the latest achievements, scientific discoveries, technologies, methods and tools for implementing smart city projects.
Human-centered smart city
World Cities Day is celebrated on October 31st every year and marks the end of October for cities. First celebrated in 2014, the day is hosted by a different city each year with global observances focused on a specific theme.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed this day to raise awareness of global urbanization and encourage cooperation among countries to address urbanization challenges and contribute to sustainable urban development around the world.
The 2025 World Cities Day global event will be held in Bogotá, Colombia, with the theme of human-centered smart cities.
Learn how to leverage data-driven decision-making, technology, and AI to improve urban life and recover from current shocks and crises. We are also focusing on promoting people-centered smart city initiatives.
This year’s theme reflects the growing recognition that the transformative power of digital technologies offers huge opportunities to reshape urban life around the world and enhance the way cities and human settlements are designed, planned, managed and governed.
In an era characterized by both urban and digital transitions, cities are increasingly deploying digital technology solutions and data to better serve their residents and address key urban challenges and opportunities.
This year’s theme aims to promote human-centered smart cities and demonstrate how prioritizing human needs, inclusivity and accessibility is critical for smart cities.
Second, the event provides a platform for cities to exchange best practices, experiences and strategies in implementing human-centered smart city initiatives around the world, especially when addressing critical challenges such as the global housing crisis.
Finally, by raising global awareness of the role of technology and innovation in improving access to adequate housing and achieving urban development, its goal is to foster and foster international cooperation and cooperation between all social sectors on human-centered smart cities.
