At a press conference on Tuesday, Baguey highlighted that as the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade, which is the responsible organisation for foreign affairs and the main responsibility for water issues, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that it is seriously pursuing water issues with neighbouring Afghanistan.
He noted that the issue of water stocks has been followed up by either the Iranian embassy in Kabul or by any other channel to obtain its rights from the Harmand River.
Previously, Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian said his administration would pursue Iranian water rights issues from the Hillmand River shared by Afghanistan.

Iran’s request for this water right is based on a treaty reached in 1973, with detailed negotiations being made at various levels in this regard. Iranian officials have always emphasized the correct implementation of the 1973 Hirmand River Treaty between Iran and Afghanistan.
