BEIJING – Deputy Ministers of Iran, China and Russia held a trilateral meeting in Beijing on Friday to discuss the pressing issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, stressing that “armed sanctions, pressure or threats” were not a solution to Iran’s nuclear issue.
The meeting comes two days after Iran received a letter from President Donald Trump about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.
At the end of the conference, a joint statement was issued in which Russia and China praised Iran’s “repeated repetition that the nuclear program is a peaceful purpose,” and Tehran’s policy of “continuing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)” emphasized the need to fully respect Iran’s right to peace energy in nuclear energy.
The three countries also emphasized the need for all states to refrain from any actions that undermine the IAEA’s technical, objective and fair work.

China, Russia and Iran engaged in detailed discussions on the latest play situation regarding nuclear issues and lifting sanctions. The three countries emphasized the need to end all illegal, unilateral sanctions.
The three countries have reiterated that political and diplomatic engagement and dialogue based on the principle of mutual respect are the only viable and practical options in this regard.
The three countries emphasized that the parties involved should address the root causes of the current situation and commit to abandoning the threat of sanctions, pressure or force.
The three countries emphasized and sought the importance of UNSC Resolution 2231, including its time frame.
Related parties to refrain from actions that could escalate the situation in order to create a favorable atmosphere and conditions for diplomatic efforts.
The three countries reiterated the importance of maintaining the treaty on the shortage of nuclear weapons (NPT) as the cornerstone of the international non-proliferation regime.
China and Russia welcomed Iran’s repetition that its nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful purposes, not for the development of nuclear weapons, welcomed Iran’s commitment to full compliance with its obligations under the NPT and the Comprehensive Protection Agreement, and supported Iran’s policy to continue cooperation with the Nuclear Party Party to fully respect the Prime Minister’s cooperation in respecting the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEEA). npt.
