Tehran – The University of Science and Technology of Iran and the University of Science and Technology of Jiangsu University in China have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote education, research and scientific cooperation.
Seyyed of Mohammad-Ali Boutorabi, vice president of Iran’s University of Science and Technology, and Nan Ren, vice president of Jiangsu University, focused on the Chinese agreement reported on Monday by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
MOU focuses on exchanging graduate students, conducting collaborative research projects, providing lectures to Sabatic Leaf and Dispatched Professors, exchanging scientific data, holding technical workshops and courses, and inviting experts to participate in national and international scientific conferences.
It also includes holding international sporting events at each university and establishing chairs in Persian and Chinese.
Strategic Partnerships
Iranian universities are investigating the possibility of developing scientific and research cooperation with Chinese and Russian institutions under strategic partnerships with both countries.
At a conference held in China on April 11, Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology Saeed Habiba and Secretary-General of the China Scholarship Board, Sheng Jianxue discussed ways to develop scientific cooperation between universities in the two countries.
The conference focused on holding joint academic courses, exchanging professors and students, expanding government scholarship programs, expanding technical relationships, scientific interactions and sharing expertise.
During the meeting, Habiba detailed the academic and scientific potential and capabilities of Iran.
In a side job at the conference, Iranian officials visited one of China’s technology parks to become familiar with technical capabilities and scientific achievements.
Iran and China formally signed the document in March 2021 for a comprehensive cooperation of 25 years.
The document was signed between then-Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Foreign Minister Wang Yii of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
In December 2022, Iran and China confirmed 16 memorandums of understanding under the framework of both countries’ strategic 25-year contracts.
Global Rankings
The 15th edition of the 2025 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings includes 17 Iranian universities in 21 subject entries compared to 17 Iranian universities in 2024.
Iranian universities are ranked among the top institutions in three faculty disciplines, including engineering and technology. Life Sciences and Medicine; Natural Sciences, Mehr News Agency reported.
Times Higher Education (The) World University Rankings (WUR) ranks 85 Iranian universities among the world’s top universities, according to International Outlook 2025.
Sharif University of Technology (global rankings of 301-350) is the top university in Japan.
Amilkavir University of Technology and Iran University of Science and Technology are both second in the global rankings of 351-400.
