On Saturday, the Iranian embassy in Venezuela said in a post on its official account
The Iranian mission emphasized that this choice makes a mockery of the very concept of “peace.”
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Colina Machado for her work “promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people.”
But critics take issue with Machado’s outspoken support for the Israeli regime.
Machado has expressed support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right cabinet and said if elected he would move the Venezuelan embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Al-Quds. This would align Venezuela with Washington and mark a clear shift away from its historical support of the Palestinian cause.
Her party, Vente Venezuela, signed a cooperation agreement with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, pledging to strengthen ties between Venezuela and the Zionist regime.
Machado is also an outspoken supporter of US President Donald Trump, who has described Venezuela as the “greatest chance ever” for regime change.
