TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the brutal US military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, denounced the law as an unprecedented violation of international law and a direct attack on Iran’s sovereignty.
The statement released on Sunday morning follows a US military strike targeting nuclear sites under full surveillance by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The attack occurred early on the 10th day of Israel’s military attack on Iran. Iran has already claimed the lives of at least 400 Iranians.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Iran is being condemned on the strongest possible conditions. The US brutal military attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, a serious and unprecedented violation of the fundamental principles of UN and international law,” the statement began.
The Iranian government put Washington directly in charge for “heinous crimes” and warned of “dangerous consequences and widespread implications.”
Iran has accused the joint Israeli-American operation of revealing “the depth of the depravity that controls American foreign policy” and ruling the US of deep seated hostility towards “people who love those seeking peace in Iran.”
Tehran emphasized that the strike constitutes a serious violation of the UN Charter, particularly Article 2(4), and prohibits the use of force or threats to territorial integrity or political independence. He also said the United States violated UN Security Council resolution 2231, approving Iran’s nuclear deal in 2015 and controlling Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
Iran has called on international organisations, including the UN, the Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, and the IAEA to take urgent and decisive action in response to the attack. Tehran called for the UN Security Council to immediately convened an emergency session to condemn the US’s actions and take responsibility for violating the UN Charter and other core doctrines of international law.
“The silence in the face of such a blatant attack will bring the world to unprecedented levels of danger and chaos,” the statement warned.
Iran argued that the organization and its responsible member states have an obligation to respond to Washington’s “illegal, unilateral conduct” and prevent further erosion of international norms.
The statement also harshly criticized the IAEA director, revealing his “clear bias in favour of warm political parties,” saying his actions “paired the way” for strikes by not supporting the mission of fairness and depoliticized institutions.
Tehran emphasized that the attacks occurred in the midst of an ongoing diplomatic process, accusing the United States of “betraying diplomacy.”
“The United States has launched a dangerous war against Iran’s Islamic Republic as it completed illegal criminal activities by the Israeli regime,” the statement declared.
Furthermore, it warned that the US strike revealed the true nature of the current international order. This hopes even permanent Security Council members will serve the purpose of “genocide, occupation regime” in order to “waive all principles and accept crime.”
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has reiterated its national resolve to protect its territory, people and sovereignty “by all the necessary forces and means,” indicating that further violations by the United States will be met with a firm and direct response.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to defend Iran’s territory, sovereignty, security and people through all the forces and means against US criminal attacks.”
