Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Bagay condemned the US President’s announcement regarding the closure of Venezuelan airspace, calling it a serious violation of international legal standards, including those regulating international air transport.
He said this step is another step in the United States’ provocative and illegal actions against Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Bagai said the move was arbitrary and an unprecedented threat to international aviation security.
The spokesperson also warned that the decision could have dangerous consequences for the rule of law and international peace and security.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday declared a “total closure” of Venezuela’s airspace after vowing a ground attack would begin “soon.”
Tensions between the United States and Caracas have escalated in recent months, with the United States conducting a number of military and security operations in the Caribbean and around Venezuela, drawing international condemnation and criticism.
