Iran’s Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesperson Mohsen Shamshizadeh Rawandi made the remarks on Friday, after U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Piggott told X that he would “honor the memory” of Jamsheed Sharmad.
“This is truly shameful and pathetic! American politicians are so obsessed with blindly supporting terrorism against the Iranian state that they even shed tears over the death of a terrorist who was proud of killing and seriously injuring innocent Iranians in a mosque in Shiraz,” Shamshizadeh Rawandi said. According to Press TV.
He also pointed out that Piggott’s “memorial tribute to the fallen terrorist only proves your government’s complicity in his criminal activities and further increases the international responsibility of the United States government.”
Mr. Sharmahad, a German citizen but also a U.S. resident, led the pro-monarchist group Tondal (Sander).
He is behind a series of terrorist acts, including a 2008 attack on a religious gathering center in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz that killed 14 people and injured hundreds more.
He was arrested by Iranian intelligence forces in 2020 and appeared in court over the case.
Tehran’s Revolutionary Court ultimately sentenced Sharmad to death for planning and organizing terrorist acts in Iran at the behest of Western intelligence services and committing “corruption on earth.”
