Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran Amir Saeed Iravani made the remarks Thursday while responding to accusations raised by US Special Envoy Michael Walz at the UN Security Council.
Iran’s foreign policy is firmly rooted in the United Nations Charter and principles such as respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states, non-interference in national affairs, and good neighborly relations, Iravani said.
He emphasized that the United States’ illegal military presence and destabilizing actions are fueling conflict and instability in West Asia.
Ambassador Irabani said the false narrative of “Iranian proxies” was fabricated to distract the world’s attention from the real cause of regional instability: the United States and its unconditional support for the Israeli regime.
The Iranian envoy stressed that by repeatedly obstructing the Security Council’s mission, Washington is complicit in Israel’s crimes and bears direct legal and moral responsibility for its continuation.
Ambassador Irabani said the Israeli regime poses a serious threat to both regional and international peace.
He said more than 68,000 Palestinians had died and thousands more were missing as a result of Israel’s “unprecedented war of extermination” in Gaza.
Mr. Irabani blamed systematic shelling by Israeli occupation forces that destroyed Gaza’s infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, and left a devastated landscape.
“These atrocities amount to gross violations of international humanitarian law,” Irabani said, citing deliberate acts of aggression, including using starvation as a weapon and imposing illegal blockades.
He also referred to the International Court of Justice’s recent advisory opinion condemning Israel for obstructing humanitarian aid, attacking UN agencies, and causing the deaths of numerous UN staff.
The Iranian ambassador said Israel was carrying out aggressive actions across the region, including airstrikes in Syria, military escalation against Lebanon, and continued occupation of the Golan Heights.
He said Israel’s aggression also extended to Iran, detailing unprovoked attacks that caused significant casualties to civilians.
Ambassador Irabani urged the UN Security Council to take decisive action and criticized its inaction as a form of complicity in Israel’s actions.
“Despite serious violations, this Council remains silent and paralyzed,” he said, noting that the United States often blocks collective action against Israel.
Ambassador Irabani said Iran supports all credible efforts aimed at ending the war in Gaza, establishing a durable ceasefire, and restoring the rights of the Palestinian people while strengthening access to humanitarian aid.
He called for accountability for war crimes committed during the war, stressing that true justice requires prosecuting those responsible for such acts.
The Ambassador reiterated Iran’s position that a just solution to the ongoing crisis lies in recognizing the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to an independent state with Quds al-Sharif as its capital.
He categorically rejected the claims of the US representative and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to respecting international law and sovereignty.
“Iran has consistently demonstrated its readiness for fair and genuine dialogue,” he concluded, calling for an end to rhetoric that distracts from the real causes of instability in the region.
