Senior Iranian diplomats attended a press conference to answer questions advocated by journalists about the ongoing consultations between Tehran and Washington regarding Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief.
The US and Iran have been holding five rounds of nuclear talks starting April 12th, and are expected to meet again for negotiations aimed at reaching a new agreement. The two countries are at odds at the level of uranium enrichment.
On Saturday, Iran’s Islamic Republic Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, head of Iran’s negotiation team, said in the X post that Oman Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi had presented elements of the US proposal regarding a nuclear deal to Iran during his brief visit to Tearan. He also said, “Iran will respond appropriately based on principles, national interests and the rights of Iranian people to suggestions.”
“Receiving a document never means approval or even acceptability,” Baguey told Presser, adding that text exchange is a common process in all international negotiations.
He emphasized that taking into account national interests is the basis for Tehran’s response to the US proposal. “Of course, proposals need to be carefully considered, and appropriate responses must be based on national principles and interests.”
