Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said in an interview with Mehr’s press that Tehran will respond appropriately to Western mistakes.
Borgeldi said in response to recent threats by European countries to raise a snapback mechanism and restore a UN Security Council resolution to Iran, “Iran’s Islamic Republic will continue to provide a proportional response to the missteps of the West and will continue to provide.”
Referring to the US attacks on Israeli regime and Iran’s nuclear facilities, he added: “They made mistakes and paid the price. In response, the Iranian parliament mandated the suspension of all cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), approved by the Guardian Council, and was communicated to the President, and it had an effect.”
“Of course, if we trigger a snapback mechanism and repeat the mistakes, both Congress and the government will take even more serious action,” he added.
He warned that Iran is not a country to be threatened. “We hope that European countries will act wisely. The Islamic Republic has made it clear that they will not retreat from legal rights under pressure and threat.”
Borgeldi stressed that although Iran, in principle, does not oppose negotiations, the negotiations must respect Iran’s rights. “We will never waive any legitimate rights to enrich uranium. Enrichment is a sovereign right that we continue to pursue based on the needs of the country.”
Emphasizing the country’s scientific capabilities, he emphasized that the West should understand that our nuclear expertise is embedded in the minds of hundreds of Iranian scientists. “Bounding cannot erase this knowledge. It just comes back strongly.”
He concluded that negotiations only make sense if Iran’s rights to enrich uranium are supported. “The negotiations only make sense when they take place on the premise that they maintain Iran’s enrichment rights, and we will never succumb to the Western demand for enrichment.”
