According to SHANA, Mohsen Pakhnejad made the remarks on the sidelines of the 27th GECF Ministerial Meeting in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday.
“This meeting, which represents the highest decision-making level among gas exporting countries, discussed important issues such as administrative and structural issues and next year’s budget,” Paknejad said. “Among Iran’s major achievements include being elected chairman of the GECF board.”
He added that Iran has also proposed forming a GECF, a move aimed at increasing its effectiveness and global influence among gas producing and exporting countries. “Both initiatives have been well received and have already reached positive conclusions,” he said.
Mr. Paknejad referred to the selection of a new GECF Secretary-General, noting that this issue was also discussed. “The current term of office of the Secretary-General has come to an end and Ministers have agreed that the next Secretary-General will be from a country that has not previously held the office,” he said, adding that no final decision had been taken yet.
Regarding the bilateral talks in Qatar, Prime Minister Paknejad said that he spoke with several participating ministers on Wednesday. “We had productive discussions on a variety of issues of mutual interest,” he said. “In particular, we called for investment in Iran’s oil and gas industry. We agreed that the specialized working group will hold further meetings to discuss these issues in more detail.”
