In a statement released on Thursday, Arraguchi criticized the US for changing its name from the Department of Defense to the Department of the Army and accused the US of being a “nuclear-armed bully.”
“The same bullies are now demonizing Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and threatening further attacks on its secure nuclear facilities, all in blatant violation of international law,” Iran’s foreign minister said.
He has long criticized Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and at the same time accused the United States of restarting its own nuclear weapons tests, arguing that this action violates international law.
“Make no mistake, the United States is the most dangerous nuclear proliferation risk in the world,” Aragushi said, insisting that resuming nuclear tests would pose a serious threat to international peace and security, Press TV reported.
He also called the announcement of a resumption of nuclear testing a regressive and irresponsible act, and appealed to the international community to come together to hold the United States accountable for the continued proliferation of nuclear weapons.
US President Donald Trump boasted Wednesday that Washington’s nuclear arsenal is the largest in the world, crediting this status to updates and upgrades made during his administration.
President Trump acknowledged the destructive power of nuclear weapons and took a negative stance on the necessity of nuclear tests, saying, “I didn’t want to do it, but I had no other choice.”
He elaborated that because of other countries’ nuclear development, he had instructed the newly named so-called Ministry of War to begin nuclear tests, and insisted that this process would begin immediately.
In June, President Trump reiterated his debunked claim that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program.
In response, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi said there was no evidence that Iran was pursuing a nuclear weapons program.
Grossi acknowledged what Iran has repeatedly said, and the United Nations nuclear agency confirmed in its report.
