Iran and the US delegations held indirect talks in Muscat, Oman’s capital, to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and lifting sanctions.
The US delegation was headed by Middle Eastern special envoy Steve Witkov, and Iranian diplomat Abbas Aragucci led the Iranian negotiation team.
The indirect consultation was mediated by Omani’s Foreign Minister Al-Busaidi.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci issued a statement following the Tehran-Washington talks in Muscat, speaking with National Iranian television.
“We are looking for a contract as soon as possible, but we have reached a deal that is not easy,” Araguchi said.
Araghchi added that he “meeted a US delegation within a normal diplomatic framework.”
“Next round of Tehran-Washington negotiations will take place next Saturday,” he noted.
“We’ll explain the general framework for a potential agreement next Saturday,” Araguchi continued.
He described the negotiations as constructive and told national television that there was a four-round message exchanged indirectly between Iran and the United States during the Muscat meeting.
A top Iranian diplomat posted on his telegram channel that he had a brief encounter with his US counterpart, led by Trump’s Middle Eastern envoy Steve Witkov, after his delegation ended indirect consultations.
“After the end of the two and a half hours of indirect consultations, the heads of the Iranian and American delegations spoke for a few minutes before the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Oman when they left the consultation,” Aragichi said.
The lecture began on Saturday around 330pm local time.
The two spoke for over two hours and ended discussions at around 5:50pm local time in Muscat.
