Iran’s civil aviation agency said in a statement Tuesday that it has launched an online platform for the registration of private drones.
Owners of all kinds of civil drones, including those used for agriculture, photography and surveying purposes, said it is necessary to register their devices on the platform and receive an ID number to display on the drone.
The statement said operating a drone without an ID number is illegal and would lead to judicial punishment against the owner.
The announcement has killed more than 1,000 people across the country after Iran was hit by a drone attack by the Israeli regime during the 12-day war in June.
Iranian authorities said the attacks carried out by small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the time targeted the homes of military commanders and nuclear scientists.
The new regulations also address concerns about Iranian security officials flying above or near sensitive areas in the country.
Most privately owned drones operated in Iran are used to spray pesticides and for filming activities.
However, commercial use of drones in Iran is expected to increase in the coming years as online retailers plan to increase the use of package delivery.
