Regarding Iran’s invitation to the signing ceremony of the ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the Israeli regime’s military aggression against the Gaza population, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghai told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the Islamic Republic has no plans to attend the meeting.
The spokesperson reiterated Iran’s long-standing position and emphasized its support for all efforts that end the genocide in the Gaza Strip, alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, facilitate the withdrawal of the occupiers from the area, and ensure unimpeded access to essential goods for its people.
Bagai praised the resilience, perseverance and heroic sacrifices of the Palestinian people in the face of the Israeli regime’s ongoing war crimes and genocide over the past two years.
He insisted that the future of Palestine should be determined solely by the Palestinian people and their legitimate representatives. He expressed the hope that regional countries and the international community will learn from the historic violations and atrocities committed by the Israeli regime and prevent a repeat of past wrongs and breaches of commitments.
The spokesperson also thanked the Egyptian government for the invitation to visit Iran and stressed the importance of solidarity and consensus between the Islamic world and the countries of the region. He emphasized the need to create conditions that support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, while countering the threat posed by the Israeli regime’s expansionist and warmongering policies.
Additionally, in an X post early Monday morning, Alaghushi expressed gratitude for the invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, but clarified: “While we support diplomatic engagement, neither President (Masoud) Pezeshkian nor I can engage with a country that continues to attack the Iranian people, threaten us, and sanction us.”
