Responding to questions raised by journalists at their weekly press conferences on Monday morning, Baguey said the Islamic Republic has not received an official response to the letter from Washington.
A senior Iranian diplomat also said Oman is one of the leading candidates to mediate possible consultations between Tehran and Washington.
Iran sent the response to the US, and now it’s waiting for Washington to decide on the issue, Baghey stressed. “Iran’s offer to commence indirect consultations was a generous, responsible, and politically wise offer.”
“In the current situation, Iran’s preference is to focus on the proposals it has presented, he said, adding that decisions will be made at an appropriate time according to the circumstances regarding future developments.
He added that Trump’s letter contains a combination of threats and proposals.
“There is no real complexity in our nuclear issue. Concerns from the other side revolve around confirming the peaceful nature of our (nuclear) program.
He noted that the IAEA is fully equipped to conduct testing and ensure transparency in Iran’s nuclear activity.
Baghaei also highlights the challenges posed primarily by multiple layers of sanctions imposed by the US, and Europe and other countries have enforced them. “Removing these sanctions requires serious technical and expert level discussion,” he said.
