Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaille Baghihai told Al Jazeera in an interview Wednesday that Iranian parliament had voted to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, the UN nuclear watchdog.
He said the US has “tourped diplomacy” and is no longer reliable, citing the major damage to nuclear infrastructure. He reaffirmed Iran’s right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy under a non-diffusion treaty.
In response to the parliamentary bill, Baguei said it would set conditions for future involvement with Iranian IAEA, including assurances of safety and security for Iranian scientists and nuclear facilities.
Iran’s Congress has passed a bill that effectively halts national cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as it argues it will not abandon its civilian nuclear program following massive attacks on the country by Iran and the United States.
Wednesday’s move comes after a ceasefire between Iran and Israel ended a 12-day violent clash.
