TEHRAN – The international conference on tourism in Iran’s LUT Desert will be held with a focus on investment and sustainable development, the state tourism department said Wednesday.
Seiyed Ahmad Barabadi, director of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts in South Holasan Province, said the event aims to turn the challenges of desert conditions into opportunities to attract investors.
“The main goal of this conference is to create a platform to introduce the LUT Desert capabilities to domestic and foreign investors,” Barabadi said Wednesday at the meeting of the policy decision council.
Barabadi describes the LUT as one of the world’s largest and most unique deserts, highlighting its potential as both a natural ecosystem and its economic and tourism opportunity. He said it targeted investments in nature-based tourism, ecotourism and related industries.
He added that sustainable tourism development in the desert will not only boost the local economy, but also help preserve the region’s natural resources and cultural heritage.
“With amazing scenery and unique features, the LUT Desert can become an international tourism destination with a focus on investment and expertise,” Barabadi said.
The UNESCO listed LUT Desert spans parts of southeastern Iran, is known for its sweeping sand dunes, rugged topography and impressive geological layers, captivating scientists, adventurers and photographers around the world.
The LUT holds a record of one of the hottest places on the planet, with the recorded temperatures reaching 70.7 degrees Celsius. Beyond the barren appearance, this property is an amazing plant and animal life heaven that has uniquely adapted to survive these harsh conditions.
Moreover, the burnt desert is one of the top areas of the world to find met stones, thanks to its unique parameters. In recent years, significant discoveries have been made through the efforts of national and international teams of researchers.
