According to the latest directory of Tehran – Open Access Journals (DOAJ) data, Iran has a total of 1,003 indexed journals, one of the top five countries with the most open access journals published.

The country’s progress over the past decade has been notable, rising from 95 indexed journals in 2015 to 506 in 2022. This trend continues to grow, reaching 931 in 2024 and 1003 in 2025, reported MSRT.IR.
Of the 1,003 indexed journals, 584 and 480 journals are Persian and English, respectively. Six journals are in Arabic, two in French, and the other two in Russian. Abesthan has a journal, while Kurdish has a journal. Overall, Iran, with 591 Persian magazines, ranks ninth among the other 80 languages.
According to DOAJ data, Indonesia has 2511 indexed journals, first placed, followed by the UK (2202), Brazil (1533), and the US (1248).
Iranian articles among tops around the world
With 86,924, 14,473 and 11,194 articles, China, the US and India are the top three countries. Iran is ranked in England (4,360), Japan (4,022) and Spain (3,830), reports ISNA. Q1 Journal Index is used to classify scientific journals based on their impact. It is most commonly used in databases such as Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) and Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
Rankings for the Q1 Journal are based on impact factors, SJR, H index, and number of citations, ISNA reports.

Since 2011, the country has been suffering a downward trend with obtaining patents for nanotechnology, but has been placed in the top 30 countries in nanotechnology patented technology, ranked 27th in 2024.
It is noteworthy that the proportion of granted patents has increased from 19% in 2023 to 25% in 2024. Similarly, the number of published and granted patents increased slightly from 17% in 2023 to 19% in 2024.
By the end of 2024, Iran had announced 364 nanotechnology patents at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). 25% of Iran’s USPTO registered patents fall under the Nanotechnology category.
