In a radio interview on Sunday, Esmaeir Bagaei highlighted the strategic importance of the South Caucasus for Iran and other regional nations, particularly Russia, citing political, economic and geopolitical considerations.
He emphasized that Iran was monitoring the development of the Caucasus “with an open eye” and that he would not underestimate or underestimate anything.
Baghaei emphasized that foreign interference and the presence of out-of-territorial forces in this region add to geopolitical complications and does not serve constructive purposes.
Referring to the recent peace treaty between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, he said Article 12 provides provisions that prevent foreign troops from stationing along the shared border.
“We are very sensitive to the issue as Armenia itself recognizes the consequences of the existence of foreign forces,” Baghey added.
The spokesman also expressed preparations for Iran to support initiatives that strengthen ties with regional countries and enhance stability and security in the South Caucasus.
