“The truth cannot be suppressed by sanctions,” Bagaei said in a post on his X account on Friday after ruling the US State Department’s decision to impose sanctions on Francesca Albanese, an independent Italian investigator investigating human rights abuses on Palestinian territory.
“Francesca Albanese has been bullied and approved to tell the truth and to stand up against genocide, occupation and apartheid,” he said.
“On the other hand, Netanyahu, a court-certified war criminal, will obtain the red carpet in DC,” an Iranian spokesman said.
“Your naked hypocrisy is completely on display and the world is watching,” Baghhi told American officials.
The Trump administration announced Wednesday that it was issuing sanctions against Albanese, the US’s latest effort to punish critics of Israel’s 21-month war in Gaza.
The State Department’s decision to impose sanctions on the UN Special Rapporteurs in the West Bank and Gaza follows a failed US pressure campaign to get international agencies to remove her from her post.
Albanese, an Italian human rights lawyer, has spoken out about her description of Israeli “genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza.
