The Guardian report said Iran is expected to resist the US proposal to relocate a highly abundant uranium stockpile to third countries such as Russia, as talks between Iran and the US are ongoing in Tehran’s nuclear program.
Iran is expected to resist the US proposal to relocate highly enriched uranium stockpiles to third countries such as Russia as part of Washington’s efforts to reduce Tehran’s civil nuclear program and prevent it from being used in the development of nuclear weapons.
The issue is considered one of the key stumbling blocks of the future agreement, and was raised in the first, largely indirect speech held in Muscat, Oman, between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi and Donald Trump’s special mission, Steve Whitkov.
Iran has argued that stockpiles accumulated over the past four years should remain in Iran under the strict supervision of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency. Tehran sees this as a form of insurance, in case the US administration withdraws from the agreement in the future.
Tehran says that if stockpiles leave Iran and the US ends up getting out of trade, they must start to become rich from the start.
The Guardian’s report added that a meeting between Iran and US representatives held in Oman last Saturday was primarily indirectly.
