Speaking at the 13th Eco Transport Minister’s Meeting in Tehran on Monday, Sadeg said the organization’s regional cooperation reflects cultural ties between its members and should be used to promote economic development.
She highlighted the important role of transportation in regional growth, noting that Iran prioritizes strengthened regional cooperation, better use of the vast potential of ECOs, and expands its transport network.
Emphasizing Iran’s strategic location in Western Asia, the minister pointed to access the open seas through the Persian Gulf and the ocean, as well as an extensive network of over 250,000 km of roads and 15,000 km of railway lines at the intersection of the north and east-west corridors.
Sadegu also highlighted the need for member states to play a greater role in moving forward with eco-planning, particularly in the transport sector, and referred to the 2035 vision for regional integration.
She added that Iran recorded a record of 20 million tonnes of cargo last year, thanks to close cooperation with regional partners, particularly through the border infrastructure projects with Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey.
The 13th Minister of Eco Transportation Meeting begins on Monday and runs for two days.
