According to Mehr News Agency, Kamal Khalazi, who is also the head of the Tehran-based Foreign Affairs and Strategic Council, said in an interview that Iran has expressed its readiness to consider mediation by Russia and China to revive cooperation with the IAEA.
Asked in an exclusive interview with the Russian media whether Iran considers Russia and China as intermediaries to reach a new cooperation framework between Tehran and the agency, Foreign Minister Khalazi said, “Yes. If such a plan is proposed, we will consider it,” RIA Novosti news agency reported.
In related remarks, Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a telephone conversation with Russian Federation Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday afternoon to discuss the latest bilateral, regional and international developments.
Referring to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s continued cooperation with the IAEA and rejecting allegations of snapbacks by some Western countries, Aragushi said the agency should remain neutral and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions.
The two countries referred to the upcoming IAEA Council meeting and agreed to coordinate positions and cooperate, emphasizing the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
