In a meeting with Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan, President Peshūū, a bystander at the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin on Monday, stressed that he was fostering the volume of trade and the need for commercial interaction between Iran and Turkey, and that he was fostering the cooperation between banks and customs to achieve this goal.
Pezeschkian emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the Islamic world and strengthening regional cooperation, and expressed his commitment to fostering relations with neighbouring countries.
The Iranian president welcomed the decision to cut off Turkish stance on crimes from the Israeli regime’s regime’s decision to cut economic ties with the regime. He also expressed support for an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which aimed to stabilize peace in the region, whilst opposing foreign military presence in the Caucasus.
Regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Pezeshkian said Iran has begun negotiations and cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under a new framework.
He said Iran is ready to engage in indirect dialogue with the United States, aiming for a solution that is beneficial to both sides, based on the recognition of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear rights. He warned that the European parties in the 2015 nuclear agreement lacked legitimacy to evoke a snapback mechanism due to their failure to fulfill their obligations, and that such actions would disrupt the ongoing debate.
Pezeshkian further noted that Iran and Turkey share similar positions in maintaining Syrian territorial integrity and ensuring political stability in Iraq. He also congratulated Erdogan on the day of Turkish victory, also known as Turkish Army Day, and expressed his hopes for constructive cooperation between the two countries’ troops.
On his part, President Erdogan said the activation of the snapback mechanism was non-constructive and supported Turkey’s support for Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear activities. He acknowledged Iran’s concerns while advocating ongoing dialogue with the IAEA, suggesting that maintaining communication with the US would thwart Israeli conspiracy.
Erdogan highlighted the urgency to convene a high-level council of cooperation between Iran and Turkey, and announced his intention to visit Iran for this purpose.
He reiterated the importance of Iraq’s political stability, calling for an end to the Gaza genocide and crime, and emphasized continued consultations with Azerbaijan and Armenian leaders to stabilize the peace in the Caucasus.
The Turkish president came to the conclusion by asking his Iranian counterparts to convey his warmth to honor the leader of the Islamic Revolution.
