President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasizes the need to establish joint financial institutions within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to strengthen cooperation between member states.
In a meeting with SCO Director General Nurlan Yermekbayev, Pezeschkian, a bystander of the Tehran Dialogue Forum on Sunday, stressed that such mechanisms serve as a key platform for joint planning and programmes as well as meaningful political, economic, cultural and scientific interactions.
While commended the SCO’s contribution to peace, security and stability in the region, he congratulated Yermekbayev with the assumption of the SCO’s office and repeated his full support for the organization.
Yermekbayev, on his part, welcomed the full membership of Iran of SCO, and described it as an important turning point. “Since Iran joined the organization, the Islamic Republic has presented valuable and pioneering proposals,” he said.
He highlighted the active role of Iran in promoting multilateral cooperation within the SCO, but said that agreements and documents within the organisation’s framework require operational plans.
President Pezeschkian said that China’s chairman will be a valuable opportunity to make strategic decisions to achieve SCO’s core goals.
