TEHRAN – The Iranian Army is currently working on testing combat robots in parallel with the development of new models, Brigadier General Nozar Nemati, Deputy Commander of the Army’s Ground Forces, told the Tehran Times.
A senior military official did not provide specific details about the types of robots being tested or developed, but said the army was deploying a variety of robots in training exercises that began Sunday night in northeastern Iran. Ta.
The ongoing drills are being described as “offensive” exercises and appear to mark the latest phase in a series of large-scale exercises that began across the country at the beginning of the year. The initial phase of the national exercise involved a diverse range of forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the Army (Artesh), the Basij, and the Coast Guard.
Previous war games have seen Iran reveal two new underground military bases, simulate counterterrorism operations in western provinces, and conduct interception training for bunker-busting attacks near nuclear facilities in central and northern regions. There is. Brigadier General Nemati told Tehran Times that the latest phase of the training mainly focused on assessing combat strategies rather than defensive strategies.
Below is the full interview of the deputy army commander with Tehran Times.
Which ground forces are participating in this exercise?
The exercise will involve artillery, armored units, air attack teams, drone operators, electronic warfare units, missile groups, and various support units.
What new equipment and tools are used in this exercise?
It uses the Fajr 5 rocket launcher, which has a range of over 110 km. In addition, we will field a variety of Army Ground Forces reconnaissance, combat, and surveillance drones that can fly continuously without interruption. It also utilizes precision-guided bombs like the Garm and precision-guided missiles like the Almas. Additionally, it incorporates a variety of smart fire-and-forget missiles to enhance combat robots for transporting friendly equipment or targeting enemy weapons.
Iran faces various threats. What role do Army ground forces play in addressing these threats as a critical component of the nation’s military capabilities?
Army ground forces enhance the nation’s combat and defense capabilities by effectively utilizing personnel across multiple missions. This includes improvements in reconnaissance, fire support, transportation, offensive electronic warfare, and robotics. By conducting continuous operations anytime and anywhere, ground forces play an important role in countering threats in the surrounding area and serve as the backbone of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The term “aggressive” is used to describe this exercise. why is that?
The term “offensive” reflects the approach taken in this exercise, where units and equipment are not confined to a given location. Instead, all combat tools and equipment were deployed in a fully mobile manner. This allows testing the capabilities and combat strategies of army ground forces in line with the characteristics of modern warfare.
Advanced technology appears to be playing a larger role in warfare than it was just a few years ago. How are ground forces leveraging these technologies for both offensive and defensive purposes?
We continually improve our offensive and defensive capabilities by incorporating the latest long-range, precision-guided, smart, network-centric equipment and weapons. This includes increasing the range of smart anti-tank missiles by three times and the range of helicopter-launched precision-guided missiles by seven times. All rapid response units are equipped with the latest weaponry. We are also designing and implementing connections between special forces and robots for future wars, while employing integrated systems to counter various attack drones and enemy drones. These advances reflect our commitment to developing cutting-edge technology within the Army Ground Forces.
