Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh made his remarks at the seventh session of the Kenya Iran Cooperation Committee held in Nairobi, highlighting the strategic geographical situation of the Republic of Kenya in East Africa.
The economic capacity of the African country prepares a suitable basis for the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries, Geserge said.
Iran’s Agriculture Minister has described Kenya as the country’s gateway to East Africa, emphasizing that both countries should raise current “inadequate” levels of trade.
He expressed hope that bilateral trade could rise to billions of dollars by leveraging the industrial, agriculture and logistics capabilities of both countries.
The minister emphasized Iran’s preparation to quickly remove trade barriers and encouraged Kenyan partners to tackle banking and trade issues and promote business.
The Iranian delegation includes major companies in medicine, industry, agriculture and technology, reflecting Kenya’s importance in Iran’s African strategy, the Agriculture Minister added.
The current trade value between the two countries is above $300 million, but if the obstacles are resolved, it is expected to exceed $1 billion in the near future.
The Minister and his companion delegation will be in Nairobi to attend the two-day Joint Economic Cooperation Committee meeting that began Tuesday.
