Speaking on the sidelines of the IPU on Sunday at a meeting of the Parliamentary Union of Parties of the OIC (PUIC) on post-war Gaza, Hamidreza Haji Babaei stressed that any ceasefire or temporary ceasefire agreement must not mean forgetting justice and granting impunity to war criminals.
He stressed that one of the fundamental goals of the IPU and PUIC is to promote peace and resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. “Today we face a great test: a test of human conscience and the effectiveness of the international system in the face of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza,” he said.
Recalling the horrific crimes committed by the Israeli regime with the direct support of the United States and some Western governments, the representative of Iran said their actions not only undermine the foundations of the global multilateral system but also undermine the credibility of international institutions.
He noted that Israel’s repeated aggressions against regional countries have prevented the United Nations Security Council from playing its key role in maintaining world peace and security.
The Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament stressed that a just future and lasting peace for the Palestinian people and the region is possible only through unity among Muslims, parliamentary unity and restoration of the world situation.
Reiterating Iran’s position on the Palestinian cause, Haji Babaei said the Islamic Republic supports all measures, including the cessation of genocide, the withdrawal of occupying forces, the release of Palestinian prisoners of war, and the realization of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
