TEHRAN — Minister of Culture and Heritage Reza Salehi Amiri announced the beginning of a new chapter in the ocean-based economy in light of the recent agreement between Iran and Oman.
According to Mehr news agency, he visited Markazi province on Saturday evening and said the measures would result in a large number of ships sailing to Iranian ports.
“Currently, we are revitalizing maritime tourism,” he added.
Referring to the government’s new plan to develop the ocean-based economy, he said that in addition to economic prosperity, job creation and attracting foreign tourists, the development of ocean-based tourism can establish Iran’s international image as a safe and attractive destination.
Referring to the recent agreement with Oman’s Minister of Culture, Heritage and Tourism regarding ports, Foreign Minister Salehi-Amiri announced the beginning of a new chapter for the maritime economy, saying, “This will see a large number of ships moving to Iranian ports, which could seriously boost the tourism capacity of the Persian Gulf.”
Salehi Amiri also said that a coastal governors’ meeting was held in November last year in the presence of government representatives. “The necessary adjustments are being made for the development of ocean-based tourism on the coasts of the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf, and investors in this sector are also taking action.”
He said that Iran has great potential in the tourism sector, adding that Markazi province, as one of the historical and cultural centers of the country, could become an important destination for domestic and foreign tourists by developing infrastructure and attracting investors.
