“We believe that the general boundaries of both countries should be freed from the anxiety, presence and activity of terrorists and criminal groups,” Peshshkian said at a joint press conference with Tehran Prime Minister Muhammad Shebaz Sharif on Monday.
He said the two countries share a stance and are determined to promote security and fight the elements behind the unrest along the border.
Iran views the stability and peace of the Pakistani people as one of its high interests, and said the president has placed a premium on maintaining sustainable security and expanding sincere ties with its neighbors.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the establishment of ceasefire and peace between Pakistan and India. Without a doubt, dialogue and peace resolution of conflicts is a prerequisite for sustainable development and establishment of regional and global security,” Pezeshkian said.
He said that West and South Asia now need security and peace more than ever before, highlighting the need and positive interactions for consultation with neighboring countries and other international partners.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply after the fatal terrorist attacks in Pahargam, India-controlled Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan for its attack, but Pakistan refused to file charges.
Elsewhere in the Presser, Pezeshkian welcomed the historical relations between Tehran and Islamabad.
He said Iran and Pakistan have a common attitude on issues related to regional, Muslim world and international development.
Pointing to the Palestinian issue, he said as active members of Islamic cooperation organisations, Iran and Pakistan support the causes of the unsuspecting people in Palestine and Gaza.
They condemn Israel’s continued crime in the Gaza Strip and Western support for its regime, the Iranian president added.
Tehran and Islamabad have called on Muslim countries to fully support the oppressed people of Palestine and Gaza, he pointed out.
The Pakistan Prime Minister said on his side that his country is firmly supportive of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Sharif praised Iran’s principled stance on supporting regional peace and security, particularly with regard to recent India-Pakistan tensions.
He reiterated its own resolve to promote peace and trade and fight terrorism, saying that Pakistan would never allow anyone to misuse its territory and carry out measures against Iran.
He expressed Islamabad’s sharpness to increase its trade and economic ties with Tehran to at least $10 billion.
Sharif also condemned the Israeli regime’s crimes against the oppressed people in Gaza, saying Pakistan would stand by the Palestinian people until the full liberation of his homeland.
The Pakistani Prime Minister, who leads the delegation, arrived in Tehran on Monday at the invitation of the Iranian president. He will travel to Türkiye on Sunday to begin a four-legged regional tour, and visit Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
