Foreign Minister Sadegh Malvajerud stressed to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday that Iran is paying special attention to the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway in the north of the country as one of the key projects in the framework of the North-South International Transport Corridor.
The Iranian Road Minister pointed out that the Rasht-Astara railway is part of the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor, pointing to the trilateral talks between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia held in Baku. There are no railroads in this section of the hallway.
Iran plans to complete the purchase procedure for the land on which the railway will run by the end of the year. The minister emphasized that the Russian side has started considering the issue of railway construction.
He further emphasized that the ministry is prioritizing the north-south transport corridor connection despite the sanctions.
