Tehran – Iran actively participated in the sixth specialist meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Customs Committee in Turkey, highlighting the importance of the Carnet de Passages en Doune (CPD) system, which promotes cross-border vehicle movement and promotes regional tourism.
The event brought together customs officials from Eco countries to strengthen cooperation and streamline transportation procedures in the region. The Iranian delegation included representatives of the Iranian Customs Bureau’s Islamic Republic and Iran’s tour and car club, CHTN reported on Friday.
At the start of the session, participants observed moments of silence in honor of the victims of a recent tragic incident at Shahid Rajaye Port in southern Iran.
The important outcome of the meeting was the approval of the 10th Ecohead agenda for the Customs Summit, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran.
Addressing the event, representatives of Iranian tours and auto clubs provided a detailed presentation on the CPD system, also known as the “customs passports” of vehicles. The CPD allows for temporary entry of personal and commercial vehicles into participating countries without depositing customs or cash guarantees at the border.
The presentation was well received and led to the inclusion of CPD topics in the final report of the conference, the report said. Participants acknowledged the possibility of simplifying customs procedures, encouraging international road trips and strengthening regional integration.
Members of the ECO Customs Committee collectively reaffirm the importance of adopting CPD procedural standards across all member states, calling them a practical mechanism for strengthening road tourism, improving transportation logistics and supporting cross-border economic initiatives.
