Tehran – Four Iranian students won three gold and silver medals at the 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2025), ranking second from third in 2024.
Pana won gold medals at the competition held in Quezon, Philippines from July 19-27, while Radin Bayani won gold medals, while Siabash Pezeshpur, Ali Soleimanzadeh Kalafraudi and Ali Akbar Nourorahi won gold medals.
IBO is the world’s best biology conference for secondary school students. This year, the competition attracted 81 delegations (including three observer delegations) and a total of 298 contestants from 81 countries and regions (including three observer delegations) who participated in a series of theoretical and practical exams in the field of biology.
Theoretical IBO tests the understanding, processing, and application of biological knowledge from competitors. There are two exams, each with a 3-hour period.
The actual IBO exam consists of tasks that assess the ability of competitors to solve biological problems using skills and methods commonly used in biological laboratories. There are four exams, each with a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The 35th edition of IBO was held in Astana, Kazakhstan from July 7th to 14th, 2024. The Iranian student managed to win two gold medals and two silver medals.

The Iranian student won two silver medals and two bronze medals, ranking fourth at the Turkey International Mathematics Olympics (TIMO) held in Antalya from April 17-22.
TIMO is an international event held for students from 3rd to 12th grade. The competition will take place in two rounds, including the reserve round and the global round.
In the reserve round, more than 27,350 students from 35 countries competed online in December. The offline qualification exam included 25 multiple choice questions managed for 60 minutes.
In the paper-based global round, 1,500 selected participants participated in the event.
Parnian Heydarian and Anusha Abdi won silver medals and the World Star Awards, while Fatemeh Mazini and Ava Dejagah won bronze medals.
