In a post on his X account on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi said Tehran has not been informed of the allegations via “appropriate diplomatic channels.”
“Iran is ready to be involved in shedding light on what really happened, and we repeat that British authorities should be able to afford the legitimate process of our citizens,” he writes.
The UK has arrested eight men, including seven Iranians, as part of two investigations into alleged threats to national security.
London metropolitan police confirmed their arrests on Sunday, saying five men, including four Iranian citizens, were detained on suspicion of “preparing for terrorist acts,” while three others were held under national security laws introduced in 2023 to counter hostile state actions.
They were arrested as part of a “pre-planned” investigation into a conspiracy suspected to “target certain facilities,” Metropolitan Police said, adding that “the affected sites” were recognized and supported by police.
Three other Iranian men were arrested in London on Saturday as part of another investigation led by the Met.
The Met said three men, ages 39, 44 and 55, were arrested under national security law at separate addresses in northwest and west London and were kept in custody during the search.
In his post, Aragut pointed to media stories about alleged involvement of the supposed Iranian citizens targeting the Israeli embassy in London, urging the UK to engage in such a way that Tehran can support credible allegations in any investigation.
Top Iranian diplomats warned that third parties are relying on hopeless measures, including manipulation of false flags, to derail diplomacy and cause escalation.
“The lack of timing and engagement suggests something is wrong,” he said.
In a post on his X social media account on Tuesday, the Iranian foreign minister called on the UK to respect the rights of Iranians arrested in the UK, highlighting Tehran’s preparations to help investigate the incident.
“We were interrupted by learning that an Iranian citizen was reportedly arrested by British security services,” Araguchi wrote.
