The Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agriculture (ICCIMA) said in a report on Saturday that exports from the country to Africa had risen 2.2 times in the four months leading up to late July compared to the same period last year.
ICCIMA cited a statement from Masoud Barahman, a senior businessman who oversees trade between Iran and African countries.
Barraman said the number of African countries importing Iran’s non-oil goods has increased to 34.
He said Iran’s exports to Africa will increase further in the coming months, along with increased transport activities and relaxation of customs regulations.
Figures released in July by the Iranian Customs Office showed Iran’s exports to African countries increased by 85% annually from late June to late June, up over $260 million.
Iran invited dozens of government officials and business leaders from African countries to a massive economic cooperation conference held in Tehran in late April.
The conference gave Iran a great opportunity to expand its African export market. There, they are looking to strengthen their economic foothold for the near future.
Iran’s plan to expand trade ties with Africa is in line with the country’s broader efforts to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil export revenue.
